Robert
Rees was born in 1841, Dowlais. He was known as Eos Morlais (the Morlais
Nightingale), because of his sweet singing. At 9 years of age, he entered
the Dowlais works in order to help his family. He was very fond of reading,
especially poetry, and eagerly learnt beautiful poems. Wherever time would
allow, Eos would attend choral practices. It was his Uncle that encouraged
him by teaching him the theory of music. He loved singing songs where beautiful
words are set to beautiful music, and his poetic interpretations of the
songs immediately captivated his audiences. Whatever he sang, Eos Morlais
made each song reach the hearts of his listeners. |
