My great grandfather THOMAS ROBERT JONES, born 1855, was a building contractor in Battersea, London. He was a leading member of the Battersea Park Lodge of the R.A.O.B. (Roll of Honour status), and he may have been born in Wales. We think he died in 1922. His first marriage resulted in children, one of whom was ELIZABETH, born 1881. - When widowed he married again, to a widow with children. Their union produced MAUD born 1887, THOMAS ROBERT, born 1889, and RICHARD born 1891. (There may have been more!) He was a widow for the second time by the 1901 census. Does any one have LINKS to this family? Maureen Wilson

Family of Evan Jones Nantcwnlle The earliest date I have been able to establish of Evan Jones's family is around the latter 1700's, in the person of David ap John. The name was later established as David Jones. The baptism Register in the Nantcwnlle parish of Ceredigion shows the baptism of a son on 12th April 1805 named Evan Jones, the mother is shown as Margaret whose maiden name is not known.Evan married a Margaret unknown.
Evan and Margaret had the following children:-Mary Jones born circa 1828. Margaret Jones born circa 1833. Ann Jones born circa 1838. Rachel Jones born circa 1839 Timothy Jones born circa 1842. Thomas Jones born circa1846.Evan Jones and Margaret were the Licensees of the Plough and Harrow Inn, at
Penuwch, Ceredigion from about 1840 to 1880. This dwelling is still there today, though no longer an Inn. It is now the home of John Roderick Rees, a twice
crowned Bard of the National Eisteddfford. The dwelling is now known as Bears Hill. Evan's daughter Margaret married a John William Evans born circa 1844.
Their Daughter was Esther Evans born 20th May 1868, at Rhydlydan, Llanarth, Ceredigion At the age of 3 months, they moved from Llanarth, owing to an outbreak of smallpox in the area, to a dwelling called Blaencledan, near Bethania, Ceredigion. Where it is believed she lived until her marriage.

My husbands grandmother was Sarah Ann Jones she was born 1897, Her Father was DavidJones and her mother was Sarah, in 1891 Sarah Ann's mother is down in the census as a grocer and the following census 1901 it`s her father who's the grocer and they live in Poplar St in Troedyrhiw, now family story's say
Sarah Ann was a bit if a girl, she had a child out of wedlock and there was a scandal attached to her that I have never been able to get to the bottom of, She is in the 1901 census as Sarah Ann Jones working in Bethesda St as a servant in a shop run by a William Jones, and by the November of that same year she is giving birth to my Father-in Law in Quakers Yard as Mrs Sarah Ann Morris, now no marriage can be found for them, And they must have left Merthyr between 1901 and 1907 because I have them in Seven Sisters Neath when the second child was born and they went from Neath to Caerphilly where Sarah Ann is marring for the second time to a Thomas Davis and according to her wedding certificate she's a widow, now this confuses me how can she be a widow if she never married or is she a story teller, with any luck there may be some one out there looking for her to and I hope there is if it`s only toknow what she did that was so bad no one would talk about it. Best Regards: Elaine Morris

Fitz Jones married Mary Llewelyn . He emigrated to the US, visited Texas and returned to Wales about 1906 and married. He died August 6, 1942 in Brynamman, Wales at the age of 62. Where could I get a death certificate? Thank you. Diana Jones

My name is Mary Jones. I married a Jones but the Jones I am interested are my Great Great Grandparents Richard T. Jones born in Merthyr Tydfil christening record of 13 September 1829 and Mary Jones born also in Merthyr Tydfil christening 6 January, 1830. I know Richard's father was also Richard Jones and his mother was Jonet. I know Mary's father was Thomas Jones and mother was Gwenlluan. Thus a Jones married a Jones. I have family records on this that have been passed down over the years. Richard and Mary had a daughter Mary Ann Jones who married a William Evans in Wales and they all came over to PA around 1872 to work in the mines. I am very proud of my Welsh side of the family and also of my Scottish side. Hope to come to Wales in the future. If you can use any of this please be my guest Mary (Ruddick) Jones

The JONES family I am seeking were from a long line of Hemp and Flax Merchants, started by Robert JONES in Liverpool around 1790, passed to his son John JONES and then on to John's sons Alfred and Robert Henry JONES. Alfred and Robert Henry JONES took over the family firm and in the early 1850's operated as flax and hemp merchants known as Alfred JONES & Co., 17 Goree Piazzas, Liverpool. The firm disappeared in the mid-1850's, probably to London. Robert Shirley JONES was my great grandfather and went to New Zealand around the early 1870's. I am trying to trace my Jones relatives who lived in the Tonbridge/Leigh area of Kent in the early years of the 20th century. Sadly, I have very few details to go on and wondered if any of your contacts might be able to help.
My grandmother, Jessie Jones, was born in about 1897, but this could be 5 years out. She married Reginald Ware on 5th June 1920 at St Stephens, Tonbridge. I have a photo of the wedding and my uncle has a copy of the wedding certificate. He tells me this lists the bride's mother as R Jones, a cowman.
Jessie died in 1932 (buried 3rd December) leaving 4 young children.
Jessie's daughter, my mother, died in 1967 when I was a teenager. These premature deaths have made it hard to learn much
My Uncle is convinced that the Jones family had lived at 'The Powdermills' in Leigh, Kent although there is also some speculation that 'R Jones' may have come from the Gravesend area. I ought to add that my uncle was 6 when his mother died and on the re-marriage of his father, all mention of his true mother was frowned upon.
Jessie's brothers and sisters include, Mabel, Harold, Lily, Stanley and Gladys. Please Contact: Rog Frost

My great-grandfather was Richard Henry Jones who appears to be born in London, England about 1861. He married Susannah Jackson in 1879, in Victoria, Australia. I do not know when he came here, and with this surname, it has not been easy to find. Susannah Jackson was born in Launceston, Tasmania at approx. 1861 using dates from death records.
He and Susannah had three children - Henry William born in Melbourne 1887, Elsie May born in Brunswick 1890, and Eva Esther born in Brunswick 1895. Eva Esther is my grandmother. She married Henry Bracewell Cain in 1916. I have some information from this point onwards.
I would be grateful for any assistance and advice, as this has not been an easy line to follow. Please Contact: Ruth Villani

I was adopted and am trying to trace my family tree, and have found that my Birth Mother was born Margaret Jones on the April 1933 at Walton Street, Oxford and died 26 November 1996 in Glasgow. However it seems that ever since she was young she was called Ellen.
Her mother was Dorothy Martha Jones, born 29 January 1913 and died 27 November 1980 in Oxford. She married Arthur Jesse Perks.
Dorothy's father was a William Jones. (no more info) The above became part of a very large and complicated family. of the Perks family and my mothers life I have a lot of detail but am having a lot of difficulty finding anything out about her Jones connections. If you can please help then I can be contacted at: Raymond Saunders

PLEASE can anyone link with my grandmother's family? Elizabeth Ellen JONES, b. 1881. On 25/08/1902 she married Hugh OWEN (b. 1873/74, occupation Joiner) in Everton, Liverpool (Calvinist Methodist ceremony). Her residence at the time of her marriage - Cefuhirfynydd (looks like), Glasfryn, Corwen. Father's name given as John JONES (deceased) (occupation farmer), and one of the witnesses given as Jennie JONES. She had two sons Thomas OWEN and Hugh Jones OWEN (my father, b. 08/04/1907 Kirkdale, W Derby). The boys spoke Welsh only until my father was nearly five. Hugh Snr. was killed in a motorcycle accident when the boys were very small and she sent them as boarders to Ripley School, Yorkshire while she earned her living as a midwife - I understand that the marriage had caused an estrangement with one or both the families. I have hit a brick wall with my ggrandfather, David Jones. I have his marriage certificate. He married Ellen Morgan in 1879 in Cardiganshire. She came from a farm, Llwynhowell in Rhostie, Cardiganshire. Her parents were Richard Morgan and Elizabeth James. I have both these families back to the 1841 census. I cannot find David's birth. According to his marriage cert, he was a farm servant living at Penpegws, Llanbadarn Fawr. His father's name was David, a farm labourer. I also have David (jnr) on the 1881 census in London with two brothers at Roman Road, Islington. Ellen (his wife) was back in Rhostie with a three week old baby, Presumably she had gone home for her confinement. Their children were Elizabeth Ann, 1880; Mary 1881; Richard David 1883and two others Margaret and Lewis born some time after Richard. On the 1881 census, it gave his age as 21, and his birth place as Aberystwith. Given the number of David Jones's born in Aberystwith around that time (or any other time come to that) does anyone have any ideas? Jean Hooper          Website

Edward Jones: (1) trying to find the marriage of Edward Jones to Catherine who first appeared in Hereford where his son Christopher (1781-1853) was baptised at St. John the Baptist church Hereford in March 1781: (he was later to become a clergyman). Other children were William (1783 - ?1820) and James (1785-1805). Edward was a corn chandler with a business in Wye Bridge Street in the 1790s, but he and his son Edward were declared bankrupt in 1804. There were probably two other children – his elder son and partner Edward II; and a daughter may be the Catherine Jones who was living in 1841 with Edward II’s son Albert and was buried by Canon Christopher Jones in his parish of Canon Pyon in 1848 aged 66 – and so born about 1782. Assuming that Edward was also a son of Catherine, perhaps the marriage of Edward and Catherine and the baptism of Edward took place in the mother’s home parish? No firm information is known about the death of either of these Edwards, but Catherine died at the home of her son Christopher in 1831 aged 84, so was born about 1747. See also below. Please Contact: Evelyn Vigeon

(2) The son Edward II married Ann Barnett in Worcester in 1797 and they baptised children in both Hereford and Claines, Worcester. At some stage he adopted his maternal grandmother’s surname and was known as Edward Stanton Jones. Does anyone know where they were married in 1820? Please Contact:Evelyn Vigeon

My g-g-grandmother was Elizabeth Jones, born in Merthyr Tydfil, Dec. 24, 1827. Her parents were William Jones [born ca. 1802] and Hannah Williams [born 1804]. Her siblings were Margaret Jones [born 1834], Gwenefred [Gwennie, born 1837], Hannah Jones [born 1840], and William Jones [born 1846]. Elizabeth was born in MT but apparently the family moved sometime after she was born. The 1851 census has the family living in MT but the place of birth for the children is Swansea. However, I can’t find the family on the 1841 Glamorgan census. Elizabeth obtained a divorce after 7 years and married David Richards in 1848/9 and had five children. David Richards and his sisters went to NZL about 1855 and nothing else is known about them. Elizabeth later married Levi James. Around 1880, Elizabeth and her descendants moved to the Scranton, PA, USA, area as part of a mass hiring of Welsh miners by PA coal mine owners. {In the late 1880’s, Scranton had the largest concentration of Welsh outside of Wales.} Around 1910, Elizabeth visited relatives in the MT area but all information about who they were has been lost.
If you have any links with these Joneses, then please contact: David Edwards

Is there anyone researching this Jones family from Mobberly, Chesire? Thomas Jones, my grandfather, was born 1862? , his father was James and his mother unknown. The only certified information I have is that he married my grandmother Jane Thornton Sibley in Manchester in 1899. He was a porter at that time. Family recollection is that he worked on a farm in Pontrillas, Hereford which may have been owned by a family member. The farm could have been Court Farm. He had a sister Elizabeth who married Jack Lewis. Is anyone out there researching the Mobberly Jones. There could be a connection here. Please contact: Pam Curtis

We are trying to trace a Jones Family of Whittington & Oswestry in Shropshire. My GGrandfather was Joseph Jones born at Whittington 18 November 1834. His parents were Richard (born 19 April 1790, Oswestry) and Sarah Boyer (born 23 October 1796 in Whittington). They married 18 August 1817 in Oswestry. From the IGI we think Joseph's siblings were:
Thomas christened: 7 Nov 1819; Edward.... 7 Jan 1821;Mary....2 Feb 1823; John....8 Oct 1825; William....10 Feb 1828; Richard....14 Feb 1830 & Isaac....24 June 1832.
All the members of the family were christened at Whittington. The 1851 census shows them living at Whittington. Isaac witnessed the marriage of Joseph to Mary Jones in 1856. Mary was the eldest daughter of Thomas and Ann Jones of Babeswood and Berghill near Whittington. Joseph and his bride migrated to Australia soon after the marriage. We would love to fill in the blanks & hopefully make contact with a descendent of this line. Hope there is a Jones who can help us please.

Hi-- I have new information and need to revise my query. Upon receipt of William Jones death certificate, I was astounded to learn that his parents were NOT Ebenezer and Margaret (Davies) Jones, but rather Samuel and Ann (Phillips) Jones. It would seem that while the family believed him to be a brother to our Mary Jones, he was in fact her brother-in-law and merely shared the common surname of Jones! While we have heard that his wife was sister to Mary's husband, her death certificate does not entirely confirm this. Hannah (Thomas) Jones parents are listed as Thomas Thomas and Rachel. Her "brother's" parents are found on documents as Henry Amos Thomas and Rachel (Prosser) Thomas. Now I am truly confused as to why there are so many photographs of William and Hannah Jones in Mary's album! This does serve to explain why William and Hannah had a child born in Wales in 1885, when the Ebenezer Jones family had emigrated nearly 20 years earlier, but explains little else. Any help would be appreciated! Contact: Debbie in California
